Winter Reflections, Manas Vijnana & Exciting News from VIDA Ayurveda
Hello dear VIDA Ayurveda community,
How is winter feeling for you so far?
Here in Byron Bay, I've been noticing the steady shift into the colder months and feeling the invitation to slow down, reflect, and gather warmth from the things that truly matter. For me, winter has begun in a particularly beautiful way.
Last week, I attended a lovely Winter Festival at my son's school. It was such a special evening filled with beautiful songs, fire dancing, community spirit, and a calm, grounded energy. As we gathered around the warmth of the fire under the night sky, I couldn't help but feel a sense of reverence for this season. Winter invites us inward. It asks us to listen more deeply, rest more consciously, and reconnect with what nourishes us from within.
And from this place of reflection and gratitude, I'm excited to share some wonderful news and updates with you.
A Glimpse Into My Studies: Exploring Manas Vijnana
One of the areas I've been diving deeper into recently through my ongoing Ayurvedic studies is Manas Vijnana, often translated as "the science of the mind."
While Ayurveda is often known for its wisdom around food, digestion, herbs, and lifestyle, it also places enormous importance on understanding the mind and emotions. Manas Vijnana explores how our thoughts, perceptions, habits, emotional patterns, and inner world influence our overall health and wellbeing.
In many ways, Ayurveda recognises that true healing doesn't happen only through what we eat, but also through what we think, feel, consume through our senses, and how we relate to ourselves and the world around us.
I've been finding this area of study incredibly fascinating and relevant to modern life. It offers beautiful insights into cultivating greater mental clarity, emotional resilience, and inner balance—something I believe we can all benefit from, especially during the quieter months of winter.
The Agni Protocol Retreat is Almost Here
As many of you know, one of the projects closest to my heart this year is the upcoming Agni Protocol Retreat, taking place from 20–23 August in Byron Bay.
This retreat has been lovingly created as an immersive Ayurvedic experience focused on strengthening Agni—the digestive and transformative intelligence that governs not only how we digest food, but also how we process experiences, emotions, and life itself.
Together we will explore Ayurvedic wisdom, yoga, meditation, daily rituals, nourishing meals, community connection, and practical tools to support greater health, vitality, and balance.
Welcoming a Special New Member to the Team
I am also delighted to share that we have a very special addition to our retreat team: Melody Pera
Melody has been a dedicated yoga practitioner since 2013 and has spent years studying and teaching yoga internationally across Canada, Argentina, Australia, and India.
Her journey has taken her deep into traditional yogic teachings, including extensive studies in Ashtanga Yoga, yogic philosophy, meditation, Yoga Nidra, Ayurveda, and yoga therapy. She has trained with respected teachers in India and has collaborated with Ayurvedic doctors in the development of educational resources on yoga therapy and holistic wellbeing.
What I especially appreciate about Melody's approach is her ability to honour the depth and authenticity of traditional teachings while making them accessible and relevant to modern life. Her teaching is thoughtful, grounded, compassionate, and deeply connected to the rhythms of nature and holistic health.
I feel incredibly grateful that she will be joining us at the retreat and sharing her knowledge, wisdom, and practice with our community.
